    Commercial Driver License Specialist & DMV Liaison

    Report To: Office Supervisor, Assistant Director, Transportation Director

    Term of Employment:  12 Months

    Pay Grade: 61

    Performance Evaluation: Performance is to be evaluated annually

    Education/Qualifications: Must be eligible for a school bus driver's license (CDL)

    Knowledge of School Bus Traffic & Safety

    Ability to multitask

    Efficient written and verbal communication

    Associates Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education,   

    training, and experience

     

    Responsibilities and Duties by Program Area:

    • Schedule the Commercial Driver License (CDL) classes (face-to-face and online)
    • Use the NCDOT State Automated Drivers License System (SADLS) to ensure CDL candidates are eligible for a Class B CDL with the School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements, as well as driver verification forms for PCS.
    • Assign PCS Staff to CDL classes, and send out email and calendar invites to candidates and supervisors
    • Attend CDL class and test sessions at the DMV to speak with PCS personnel about the CDL process, insure the proper paperwork is distributed, and answer their questions
    • Notify employees' supervisors of random drug screening selection and process
    • Release School Bus Driver Certificate (pocket card) to drivers
    • Track the status of driver credentials for district personnel:
      • Commercial Driver License (CDL)
      • School Bus Driver Certificate (pocket card)
      • Medical Examiner's Certificate (for Commercial Driver Medical Certification) Form MCSA-5876
    • Maintain records of CDL, medical, pocket cards, consent forms, drug screenings, and accidents.
    • Answer emails and calls with questions about CDL classes, training, study guide, renewals, and reimbursements.
    • Submit and route reimbursements paperwork for classes, training, permits, and licenses.
    • Monitor and report on drug screenings (random, requested, and initial)
    • Serve as DMV Liaison by:
      • Coordinating with the DMV Trainer about daily appointments & training schedule.
      • Schedule appointments with the DMV Trainer for behind-the-wheel/school bus driver certificate training.
      • Schedule appointments with the DMV Trainer for School Bus Driver Certificate (pocket card) renewals
      • Schedule employees for corrective training with DMV Trainer for moving violations that are observed, reported, or ticketed.
      • Schedule the appointments with the DMV office for CDL candidates experiencing difficulties in picking up their CDL permits.
    • Hold a Class B CDL with the School Bus(S) and Passenger (P) endorsements
    • Greet and assist visitors to the Transportation Department
    • Data Entry:
      • School Bus Mechanical Log (Service Call Log TD-28S)
      • Update the Sub/spare bus spreadsheet (Spare Vehicle Assignment Form TD-27)
    • Call and or text mechanics with all bus mechanical issues
    • Prepare paperwork and keys for activity bus check outs for field trips.
    • Navigation and GPS tracking in the Samsara Fleet Tracking
    • Update dispatch information in Edulog System management as needed
    • Perform office duties to include, and not limited to:
      • Answer a multi line phone, deliver messages, place calls
      • Make office supply lists
      • Operate office machinery change out cartridges on printer
      • Receive and copy all DOT physicals
      • Hand out Authorization forms for Vitality
      • Issues out School Bus Drivers Pocket Cards
      • Assist payroll with timesheets
    • Participates in trainings and workshops
    • Performs any other related as assigned by the Transportation Director.
