Under the leadership of the building principal, you will play a critical role in developing students’ skills in reading, writing, analysis, research, and communication—preparing them for college, careers, and life beyond high school.

As a member of our educational community, you will deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction while fostering a classroom culture grounded in Excellence, Opportunity, and Belonging. You will empower students to think critically, engage in meaningful dialogue, and express their ideas with clarity and confidence.

Essential Functions

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in high school English Language Arts courses (e.g., English 9–12, Honors, AP, or College Credit Plus as applicable).
  • Implement district-approved curriculum aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards.
  • Design instruction that strengthens students’ skills in literary analysis, argumentative and narrative writing, research, speaking, and listening.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities, English learners, and advanced students.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and adjust instruction to maximize student growth.
  • Integrate technology and digital resources to enhance instruction and student engagement.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, responsibility, and academic integrity.
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student progress.
  • Communicate regularly with students and families regarding academic performance and goals.
  • Collaborate with department members, intervention specialists, counselors, and support staff to support student achievement.
  • Participate in professional development, department meetings, and school initiatives.
  • Support and enforce school and district policies and procedures.

Additional Duties

  • Serve as an advisor, club sponsor, or extracurricular mentor as assigned.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the principal or district administration.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of secondary ELA content, instructional best practices, and adolescent literacy development.
  • Ability to use data to inform instruction and support continuous improvement.
  • Skill in differentiated instruction and effective classroom management.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and learning management systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to fostering inclusive practices and culturally responsive teaching.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional growth and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Ohio teaching license appropriate for high school English Language Arts (Grades 7–12 or equivalent).
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Advanced coursework credentials required for College Credit Plus (if applicable).
  • Prior high school teaching experience preferred.
