Job Purpose
The Team Leader provides leadership and direction on the assembly floor for robotic assemblers and technicians. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality workmanship, meeting production targets, and motivating the team to achieve business objectives measured through key performance indicators (KPIs). The Team Leader assigns daily priorities and ensures critical tasks are completed on time.
The Team Leader is also technically proficient in mechanical and electronic assembly. They support the build of precision assemblies and subassemblies of varying complexity and can troubleshoot issues and documenting findings in detailed reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to robotic technicians and assemblers on the production floor.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Contribute to and/or participate in annual performance evaluations of assembly staff.
- Provide training for newly hired robotics assemblers/technicians.
- Manage daily workflow and communicate clear priorities and instructions to team members.
- Review manufacturing schedules and ensure on-time delivery targets are met.
- Ensure all assembly jobs follow proper workflows and routing processes.
- Review non-warranty evaluation jobs to ensure accuracy of required parts, estimated labour time, and overall repair costs.
- Generate Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as required.
- Support the Manager (Manufacturing) in allocating jobs across the assembly floor.
- Evaluate customer returns and provide repair estimates in collaboration with the customer service team.
- Assemble products and subassemblies according to written or verbal instructions, drawings, and diagrams as needed.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and production equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field (minimum 3-year program preferred).
- 4–5 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Experience with MRP systems for production planning and scheduling.
- Strong knowledge of safe work practices, including WHMIS compliance.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment while maintaining a collaborative approach.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
