    JOB TITLE:  Splash Cove - Lifeguard
    LOCATION:  Splash Cove
    CLASSIFICATION:  Part-Time, Non-Exempt
    WAGE: $17.00/hour

    POSITION FOCUS

    The lifeguard is responsible for providing safety to all patrons and enforcement of policies and procedures to ensure efficient operation of the Aquatic Facility during all open hours, which include, early mornings, weekdays, evenings and weekend hours.
     
    Candidates must pass the Ellis & Associates Lifeguard pre-test to be eligible for an interview:
    • Swim 100 yards using front crawl or breaststroke without resting
    • Feet first surface dive, retrieve a 10 pound brick from a depth of 13 feet
    • Tread water without using arms for 1 minute
     
    SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
    • Accountable to the Aquatics Supervisor.
     
    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
    • Implement water emergency procedures.
    • Attend a minimum of 4 hours of in-service training each month
    • Be dressed in the proper attire and deck at the assigned time
    • Enforce all pool rules and any other rules assigned by the manager on duty
    • Be prepared at all times to demonstrate the use of any rescue or first aid procedure as covered in the training program
    • Responsible for maintaining a clean, orderly locker room, shower room, washroom and changing area.
    • Accept and be responsible for other duties deemed appropriate by the manager on duty.
    • Supervises swimmers in assigned area of pool during public use
    • Performs first aid technique and rescue procedures, as necessary
    • Reports any irregular discipline, safety or maintenance problems to the Aquatics Supervisor or Lesson Coordinator
    • Maintains a current Ellis & Associates lifeguard certification
    • Attends work on a regular basis
    • Performs the job safely and in compliance with District policies, procedures, work and safety rules, and the employee handbook
    • Maintains a clean and organized work environment
    • Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential
    • Maintain and fill out appropriate paperwork when an accident or a save has occurred
     
    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
    • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and standards of CPR, lifesaving and first aid techniques
    • Thorough knowledge of emergency and auxiliary services available in the community when needed in emergency situations
    • Good knowledge of Park District Pool Rules and Regulations
    • Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions

    • Ability to enforce facility rules and regulations
    • Capacity to perform CPR, first aid and water lifesaving skills when required
    • Ability to respond to inquiries and requests received from the general public

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
    • Minimum age of 16 is required
    • Ellis & Associates Lifeguard license or willing to obtain
    • Candidates must pass the Ellis & Associates Lifeguard pre-test to be eligible for an interview:

    HOURS
    • Sunday through Saturday, varied hours based on the facility’s hours of operation, with work hours designated by Aquatics Supervisor
    • Minimum of 20 hours per week during summer seasonal operations
    • Overtime, night, weekend and holiday work hours, as required
    • Employee is expected to be on duty whenever the need exists
     
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
    • Standing and sitting for sustained periods of time while completing work
    • Some bending, kneeling and reaching for items off floor and high shelves
    • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. in aquatic equipment, paper boxes, storage boxes and other supplies
    • Exposure to natural and potentially extreme weather conditions
    • Exposure to noise distractions from employees or equipment operation in adjacent work areas
    • Infrequent exposure to cleaning materials
    • Capacity to work in a high stress environment under multiple deadlines and with frequent interruptions
    • Ability to work extra hours to accomplish and complete high volume of work
    • Exposure to various chemicals (i.e., chlorine, murractic acid, diatomaceous earth, cleaning materials and disinfectants) as used in routine aquatic maintenance Exposure to chronic infectious disease while performing routine first aid or emergency procedures
    • Protective clothing and equipment is required as it pertains to the particular job duty:
    • Seal easy
    • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
    • Oxygen
    • Non-Latex and latex gloves
    • Sunscreen
    • Sunglasses and hat
