Role Overview:

MPI has an opening for a Retirement Benefits Analyst. The Analyst is responsible for assisting with various benefit processes which support the retirement process for Participants in our Pension and Health Plans (the Plans). This role requires consulting the Pension and Individual Account Plan (IAP), Trust documents, interpreting the documents, and preparing retirement benefits calculations. Duties also include setting up retirement accounts for payment of benefits in accordance with the requirements of the Plans’ Trust agreements. The Benefits Analyst also serves as a point of contact for pension recipients in assisting them through the retirement payment cycle.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration preferred, or equivalent experience handling Retirement Benefits related work.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' hands-on experience with defined benefits plans or trust fund experience preferred.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Ensure accuracy and precision in work output, maintaining neat and meticulous attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality, and reliability, including the ability to work extended hours/overtime as needed.
  • Ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to accept direction and developmental guidance from supervisors to support professional development and growth

 

What You'll Do:

  • For assigned caseload of Pension and IAP benefit recipients:
    • Create pension and IAP retirement applications and benefit election packets and review for accuracy.
    • Analyze retirement calculations and ensure the correct amounts are produced by the pension system, remediating any identified issues
    • Review and validate all benefit election forms and other supporting documents received from Participants.
    • Provide customer assistance by phone, email, and in-person meetings to Participants.
    • Prepare the pension file with supporting documentation for audit and completion.
    • Set up internal systems for recurring pension payments and IAP payments as per the benefit election.
    • Send correspondence to Participants to confirm and facilitate completion of the retirement process.
    • Follow established workflow processes including utilization of the Opus Business Process Management (BPM) tool.
    • Maintain accurate customer records on internal recordkeeping systems.
    • Other Responsibilities
      • Assist in the Visitor Center, as needed.
      • Maintain Participant and department files and supplies.
      • Assist with annual participant statements, required minimum distributions, and pension verifications.
      • Special projects and additional duties as assigned to support department objectives.
