Description

Natura Resources is seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Chemist / Chemical Engineer to support the development of molten salt reactor (MSR) technology through laboratory-based experimentation.

The Chemist / Chemical Engineer will assist in the preparation, execution, and documentation of experiments focused on salt chemistry, fuel processing, and reactor system development.

This role is well-suited for early-career engineers or scientists looking to gain experience in advanced nuclear technology through meaningful laboratory contributions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance of experimental systems supporting MSR-1 and MSR-100 development.
  • Prepare and handle materials for tests, including purified salts and specialized components, in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Operate laboratory instrumentation and hardware for measuring thermal, physical, and electrochemical properties of molten salt systems.
  • Support experimental campaigns involving purification systems, isotope extraction, and corrosion testing.
  • Collect and document data during experimental runs; assist in post-test analysis under the direction of senior technical staff.
  • Contribute to quality assurance and safety compliance, including routine checks and procedure adherence.
  • Collaborate with university and national laboratory partners on-site and remotely to support ongoing experiments and equipment integration.
  • Maintain lab records, test logs, and contribute to internal reporting and technical documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
  • Hands-on laboratory or test bench experience in a research, academic, or industrial setting.
  • Familiarity with scientific instrumentation and safe laboratory practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to follow technical procedures, and willingness to learn.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills for documenting and reporting work.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with high-temperature systems, gloveboxes, inert atmospheres, or hazardous materials.
  • Background in data collection software, sensor calibration, or control systems.
  • Exposure to molten salt chemistry, thermal property measurement, or corrosion studies.
  • Familiarity with radiation safety practices or previous work under a radiation license.

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed in a laboratory environment with some time in office settings.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds, wear PPE, and perform tasks involving sitting, standing, or crouching for extended periods.
  • Occasional travel may be required to partner institutions or off-site facilities.
