Worthington Steel in Porter, IN is hiring Material Handlers to support our packaging operations. We’re not just hiring for a job — we’re looking for people who want to build a career and advance within our company. Prior manufacturing experience is helpful but not required — we provide training and clear paths for growth.

What You’ll Get

  • Starting pay: $20.00/hour
  • $2.00/hour shift premium for 2nd and 3rd shift
  • Paid training on 1st shift (7am–3pm)

Schedule

  • Train on 1st shift (7am–3pm) for the first few months
  • After training, transition to:
  • 2nd shift (3pm–11pm) OR
  • 3rd shift (11pm–7am)
  • Shift premium applies once you move off 1st shift 

 

What You’ll Do

You’ll play an important role in keeping production running safely and efficiently. Day-to-day work includes:

  • Banding, packaging, and preparing materials for shipment
  • Moving steel materials using forklifts and/or cranes
  • Supporting production lines by staging materials and removing finished product
  • Assisting with basic machine setup and operation
  • Tracking and labeling materials accurately
  • Keeping work areas clean and safe 

 

What We’re Looking For

Must-Have:

  • Ability to work on your feet and handle physical, repetitive tasks
  • Basic math and reading skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Willingness to learn and work as part of a team
  • Excellent attendance
  • Desire to grow, take initiative, and build a long-term career

 

Nice-to-Have (not required):

  • Previous manufacturing or warehouse experience
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Experience reading a tape measure or using banding tools
  • Forklift or crane experience
