The Cook is directly responsible for preparation and production of meals for all residents and staff.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Ø Prepares all food and meals. Uses standardized recipes and makes food substitutions only as directed by Food Services Director.
Ø Operates departmental equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s directions.
Ø Sets up steamtable and hot food area for trayline.
Ø Participates in trayline activities.
Ø Attends production meetings.
Ø Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or its equivalency. Must have the ability to read, speak, write, and follow simple oral and written directions. Must have the ability to compute simple math.
Experience:
Must have knowledge of institutional food production and service. Must be experienced in food handling, preparation, and sanitation. Long-term care experience preferred.
Job knowledge:
Must have ability to perform all operation pertaining to food preparation. Ability to perform daily dietary functions as instructed. Skill to complete duties in compliance with infection control, sanitation and safety regulations.
Physical Demands:
On feet most of the work day. Prolonged standing and walking short distances most of work day. Repeated bending, stopping, pushing and pulling movements, lifting and moving bulky supplies and equipment.
Special Demands:
Working in close quarters with others. Faced with pressure of meeting meal schedules. Must be able to cooperate and work with supervisors and other employees. Excellent attendance is required due to responsibility and demands of position. Must understand that we are a 24 hour/7 day a week operation, which means that employee services are required all of the time.
Working Conditions:
Long term care environment, Works in well-lighted, well-ventilated work area. Subject to cuts, burns, and falls. Exposed to extremes of hot and cold temperatures. exposure to information which must remain confidential.
