Job Description

SUMMARY
The Woodbridge School District is a one facility PK-6 elementary school employing approximately 165 staff members to serve and educate approximately 860 students. A caring, creative community, Beecher Road School models and inspires the joy of lifelong learning, embraces diversity, and celebrates the unique qualities of each person. Woodbridge is one of Connecticut’s premier towns, and Beecher Road School is the heart of the town. For the 2024-25 school year and beginning November 18, the District seeks a substitute Kitchen Assistant. Hours of operation are generally 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Substitutes are not permanent employees of the district, are contacted for work based on daily needs, which vary in frequency and duration, and weekly schedules/hours are not guaranteed.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs tasks required for the safe and proper preparation of nutritious meals and food items to students and staff, including washing and peeling vegetables
  • Operates basic kitchen equipment in a safe and sanitary manner
  • Operates cash register and point-of-sale system for purchase of meals and food items
  • Maintains kitchen work area and food preparation equipment and utensils in clean and orderly condition, including transferring supplies and equipment between storage and work areas
  • Performs kitchen requirements related to recycling of food preparation containers
  • Ability to lift 25 to 30 lbs boxes

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Required:

  • Background, interest, and/or expertise in food services
  • Ability to collaborate with supervisor and other team members
  • Ability to understand and follow procedures related to food services, health, and sanitation
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for up to six (6) hours on cement quarry tile floors
  • Full range of motion when working at a stand-height work table, dishwasher, and pot and pan sink, and when bending and reaching
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations, and to learn how to use a cash register
  • Customer service experience and working in a team environment

 

SALARY 

Salary is $15.69 per hour. This position is a fill-in position on an as needed basis. There is no expectation of additional or continued employment in this role beyond what is described above. No additional benefits are provided. Fingerprinting / background check is a condition of employment, and at the expense of the applicant.
