Title: Instructional Support Assistant ~ Special Education

What the Special Education Instructional Support Assistant does:

 

In coordination with the Vocational staff, Behavior and Related Services Departments, the Instructional Support Assistant provides assistance as assigned to classroom staff in programming for a student or group of students.The Instructional Support Assistant assists the teacher as assigned in any of the following:

  • Assists in assigned classrooms with individual, small and large group instruction as directed by and coordinated with teacher.
  • Provides individualized instruction and supervision for students on and off-campus in areas assigned by supervisor and teaching staff.
  • Assists teacher in daily organizational planning.
  • Assists in recording and reporting behavior data; evaluating student progress and writing reports in relevant subject areas.
  • Communicating with parents, PHILLIPS Programs staff and non-PHILLIPS Programs professionals in coordination with classroom staff and supervisor.
  • Supervises students to ensure safety at all times, including bus duty, playground duty and off campus.
  • Supervises classroom in absence of teacher when needed or instructed by supervisor.
  • Implements individual and classroom behavior programs.
  • Assists in other general areas such as: medication administration, data collection, and other relevant tasks as assigned by teacher.
  • Assists staff in special projects, i.e. inventories, field trips, off-campus training etc.
