    Work Days:  182 Days
    Salary: Determined by graduate degrees/hours and level of experience.
    FY 27 Teacher Salary Schedule 
    Salary determined by graduate degrees/hours and level of experience. Salary Schedule Step 1 Salary Range: $46,280 - $54,211 (Bachelors - Specialist/Doctorate)
    NOTE: District 19 recognizes all years of certified full time years of service when placing teachers on the salary schedule.

We are looking for an inspiring ESL Teacher to join our team and serve as a vital bridge between language acquisition and academic excellence. In this role, you won't just teach English; you will be a champion for our English Learners (ELs), ensuring they have the tools to thrive in the classroom, excel on state assessments, and participate fully in our vibrant community.


    JOB DESCRIPTION:
    The primary goal of the ESL teacher is to ensure that ELs are able to reach a proficient achievement level on state tests, succeed in English-led classrooms, and fully participate in society.  The ESL teacher will  support EL students through direction and monitored instruction, and by providing supports to teachers of ELL students. The teacher will be involved in varies activities to include curriculum implementation, lesson planning, vocabulary instruction, scaffolding strategies, assessment and technology integration through modeling, co-teaching and guided implementation.    The teacher will serve as a conduit from research and training to implementation in the classroom.   

    TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education and Experience:

    • Valid Illinois Professional Teaching license with English as a New Language (ENL) endorsement.
    • Previous experience working with EL students preferred.  

      Strong content knowledge in EL instruction:

    • Evidence of success in functioning cooperatively and productively as a team member with demonstrated skill in communication, problem-solving and collaborative decision-making.   


    Performance responsibilities for student learning to include:

    • Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards
    • Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the district's/school's instructional program so as to ensure that students meet and exceed learning targets
    • Address students on a one-on-one basis following a schedule
    • Develop non-verbal ways for students to demonstrate their knowledge
    • Use instructional methodologies that are active and focus on learning by doing and higher0level thinking processes
    • Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies
    • Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student's ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area
    • Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
    • Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress
    • Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies
    • Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students
    • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment
    • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students
    • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
    • Oversee assigned out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as needed

    Performance responsibilities for teacher and instructional support to include:

    • Collaborate with adminstration, teachers and consultants to meet the professional learning needs of teachers.
    • Design and facilitate mathematics professional development.
    • Create or locate digital tools for instruction.
    • Provide individual and team coaching related to EL instruction.
    • Monitor elementary and middle school  mathematics curriculum implementation to identify support needs relating to mathematics instruction.
    • Support new teachers with EL coaching.
    • Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
    • Plan/attend meetings as assigned.
    • Complete projects as assigned.
    • Manage group dynamics among diverse group members
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Plan, create, and deliver professional development relating to EL instruction.
    • Work with minimal oversight to implement and monitor program efficacy.
    • Prepare professional training documents.
    • Use Google Apps, Microsoft Office, and other digital tools to create and distribute training
    • materials.
    • Work collaboratively with teachers to plan lessons.
    • Teach and co-teach model lessons using effective instructional practices.
    • Present information to a variety of audiences.
    • Understand developing conceptual knowledge, higher-ordering thinking, and related
    • abilities in students.
    • Complete other projects within the scope of the assignment.
