TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST

SALARY: $44,367.00 (Step 1) - $55,592.00 (Step 6) *
40 HOURS PER WEEK

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES: Clerical and coordination position supporting general and special education transportation services for the Bridgeport Public Schools
· Provides day-to-day support of the district’s bus transportation program, including troubleshooting daily operational scheduling issues, service disruptions, and bus breakdowns.
· Serves in a highly responsible clerical and coordination role supporting the planning, implementation, and maintenance of transportation services, including specialized transportation for students receiving special education services.
· Assists in the development of the annual bus transportation program; implements and maintains daily transportation schedules for all schools (elementary, middle, and high schools), special activities, after-school programs, high school athletic events, extended school year (ESY), and specialized programs.
· Coordinates daily specialized transportation services to ensure compliance with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including routing, accommodations, specialized equipment, and staffing needs.
· Collaborates with Special Education staff and other district administrators, as appropriate, to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient transportation services aligned with student needs.
· Maintains record-keeping and accounting systems related to daily, weekly, and monthly billing from bus contractors, including financial tracking related to special education transportation services.
· Maintains all departmental correspondence and documentation, including letters, memoranda, bus routes and schedules, budgets, requisitions, and accident reports.
· Handles telephone inquiries and communications with parents, school administrators, students, teachers, bus contractors, city agencies, and property owners, including inquiries related to specialized transportation services.
· Supervises the duties of personnel assigned to the summer work program and student work program.
· Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or their designee.
REQUIREMENTS:
· High school diploma is required.
· Knowledge of the Board of Education policies and procedures involving the school bus program.
· Knowledge of bus contractors’ operational capabilities, policies and procedures.
· Knowledge of basic accounting practices.
· Computer proficiency is required and the ability to operate various office equipment.
· Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on telephone skills
