Job Description

Instructional Responsibilities



  • Instruct Theatre and Technical Theatre courses aligned with Arkansas Fine Arts Curriculum Frameworks at Van Buren High School.

  • Provide Instruction to students at VBHS feeder schools as scheduled.

  • Teach Technical Theatre courses focusing on lighting, sound, scenic design, props, costumes, and stage management.

  • Provide instruction in lighting design and programming, including operation of the lighting board and stage lighting systems.

  • Teach sound design and audio operation, including microphones, sound boards, and playback systems.

  • Lead students in set construction and scenic painting, teaching proper theatre shop safety and tool use.

  • Teach stagecraft fundamentals, including rigging basics, backstage operations, and production workflow.

  • Supervise and train student technical crews for all theatre productions.

  • Serve as the technical director for school productions, overseeing sets, lights, sound, and backstage operations.

  • Assist in preparing students for Thespian Festival technical events and competitions.

  • Teach and support middle school theatre technical classes to build early technical theatre skills.


Qualifications



  • Previous experience in technical theatre, theatre production, events coordinator, etc

  • Teacher Licensure in Theatre and or Technical Theatre

  • Stage carpentry skills preferred

  • Proficient technology skills related to technical production equipment, set design, facility management, and communication platforms

  • Excellent communication skills


Physical Requirements*



  • Ability to work comfortably at heights

  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.

  • Ability to handle small power tools

  • Bend, stoop, reach, squat, climb, work overhead

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time

  • In district and out of district travel
