QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires one year boating experience and a California For-Hire Vessel Operator's License.
Demonstrate good verbal skills in communicating with participants, and staff. Must be able to respond to
any given emergency and know how to use emergency equipment. Must have a genuine interest in people
and the ability to establish harmonious relationships with participants, and staff is needed. Dedication and
ability to take instruction and follow through, problem solve, work well with others, resources and
equipment is required. Must be mature, flexible, adaptable, and strong verbal and written communication
skills are essential. All Y employees must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 (proof of vaccination is required).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Must follow all Camp Big Bear operating policies and procedures
2. Staff is responsible for knowing and enforcing program area rules at all times.
3. Be on time. Be responsible and punctual to your schedule.
4. Dress in proper and required attire while on duty.
5. Follow through on assignments as required i.e. boating safety speech.
6. All notices placed on the bulletin board in the office are your responsibility and for your information.
Please read notices and act accordingly.
7. Establish and maintain good relationships with participants.
8. Communicate all incidents or accidents to the camp director immediately.
9. Attend all staff meetings and in house trainings. The time and date will be distributed a minimum of
one week prior to the meeting. Emergency meetings will be scheduled as needed. Attendance at
staff meetings is mandatory.
10. Assist in other areas of camp operations such as waterfront, pool, kitchen, housekeeping, and area
maintenance.
11. Program Staff may be trained to drive the camp boat at times. Instruction and training will be
provided prior to operating the vessel.
12. Staff shall conduct themselves in a mature and responsible manner, which commands respect from
participants and other staff.
13. Attendance at staff meetings and in house training is mandatory.
14. Communicate all concerns with camp staff, lease group, and program participants directly to Camp
Director in a timely manner.
15. Maintain a professional working relationship with camp staff at all times.
DAILY MAINTENANCE
1. Keep all program areas clean on a daily basis.
2. Pick up equipment and place it in its proper storage area.
3. Assure that all YMCA, State and County rules and regulations, and CAL-OSHA standards for safe
operation are enforced.
4. Report unsafe conditions/malfunctioning equipment to your supervisor immediately.
5. Assure first-aid kits are fully stocked before areas can be opened.
6. All staff shall enforce safety rules and set good examples for YMCA participants.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Must be able to safely lift more than 50 lbs.
2. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise
program activities.
3. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, run, squat, kneel, and bend for extended periods of time while on
duty.
4. Must be able to be exposed to the mountain elements which include sun, wind, rain or whatever
weather comes about in a mountain environment.
