About the Department

The town of Foxborough is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of DPW Laborer/Driver to assist with various functions of the Tree and Park Divisions. The position is responsible for manual work in the operation of Public Works’ Tree and Parks Division’s projects, vehicles and equipment. Performs routine laboring duties, alone or as part of a crew.

Position Duties

Assists with all DPW construction and maintenance projects including, but not limited to, cutting grass, raking leaves, trimming brush, tree trimming and removal and collecting refuse along highways. May perform manual labor to assist other town departments.

Operates trucks and other equipment of moderate complexity for all Public Works projects. May haul gravel, dirt, sand, and other materials. May load and unload materials. Operates small roller, roadside mower, and compressor. Performs manual labor incidental to the work of operating assigned equipment, services and maintains equipment.

Operates vehicles providing a roadway snow removal, plows municipal parking lots and schoolyards. Assist in emergency highway repairs and in other public works related emergency repairs as required. Provides on-call assistance in snow emergencies for plowing.

All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A Valid Driver's License and ability to obtain CDL license are REQUIRED. CDL Class B and Hoisting Licenses are PREFERRED and will be required within a specified time period upon hire. 

A working knowledge of public works equipment operation and mechanics, as well as a working knowledge of construction and landscaping maintenance procedures, is desired. 

Must have the ability to perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions, the ability to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and skill in correctly lifting and carrying heavy objects. 

Must have the ability to observe proper safety precautions and the ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.  

Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the public. 

Considered applicants must pass a criminal background check, pre-employment physical and drug test. 

Applicants preferred to have general knowledge equivalent to completion of four years of high school and must be 18 years of age or older

Other Qualifications

Heavy physical effort required in performing work under field conditions with unavoidable exposure to inclement weather and a variety of hazardous conditions associated with traffic, equipment operation and construction activities. Continuous walking, standing, climbing and frequent periods requiring sustained uncomfortable physical positions. Vision and hearing must be correctable to normal ranges. May be required to lift 90 pounds, occasionally up to 120 pounds.
