Job Summary and Qualifications
The Director-Infection Prevention has the responsibility for assessing, evaluating, coordinating, and implementing all aspects of HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast Hospital's Infection Prevention and Surveillance Program. The IP Director has the authority, in collaboration with the Infection Prevention Committee, to make decisions relative to the surveillance, prevention and control of Infections/Blood-borne pathogens. The IP Director is the designated Exposure Control Office for the HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast.
What you will do in the role:
- Assists with administering Environmental Health Programs in collaboration with, all departments, Management Leadership and designated hospital committees.
- Assists with provision of environmental health educational programs of al personnel in the hospital in collaboration with Leadership Management, hospital safety officers and Education Department.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
- Integrates environmental health issues into the organizations primary functions.
- Manages infection prevention patient education for select hospital populations.
- Manages daily management of patients identified with multidrug resistant organisms.
- Demonstrates strong knowledge set in regard to infection prevention and is a point of contact resource for patients and/or family members, employees and physicians.
- Continuing education evidence necessary on aspects of infectious diseases, infection control or public health
- Knowledge of pertinent regulatory, accrediting and advisory body requirements including, but not limited to state and county regulations, The Joint Commission standards, and recommendations from CDC
- Working knowledge and ability to demonstrate a comprehension of patient care practices, microbiology, epidemiology and statistics
- Conducts appropriate investigation of outbreaks of infectious processes as assigned by the Environmental Health Manager.
- Gathers relevant information systematically as it relates to biological, physical and environmental hazards associated both with the patient and the healthcare worker.
- Performs surveillance activities and applies an epidemiologic approach to problem solving
- Employs written criteria for defining colonization, site specific infections and community acquired vs. nosocomial complications when monitoring patients
- Maintains current knowledge of regulatory standards pertaining to biological, physical and environmental hazards associated both with the patient and the healthcare worker.
- Interprets results of laboratory findings
- Analyzes antimicrobial sensitivity patterns
- Assesses patients' status by chart review of observation regarding: Signs and symptoms, Exposure, Treatment
- Conducts an investigation of cluster of infections using epidemiologic methods
- Investigates health care workers exposed to communicable diseases and coordinates with occupational heath
- Uses basic statistical techniques to describe data
- Develop, revise and evaluate infection prevention and control policies and procedures
- Evaluates policies, procedures and practices for risk of infection transmission or acquisition
- Conducts literature review for specific infection control issues 30. Identifies occurrences, reservoirs, incubations periods, periods of communicabity, susceptibility of infectious diseases
- Prepares and presents reports
- Analyzes and interprets results of surveillance, including financial outcomes
- Initiates isolation/precaution when necessary
- Communicates effectively to coordinate environmental health activities with Management Leadership, healthcare workers, patients /families we l as hospital safety officers. Speaks clearly and expresses self well in group and or one on one conversation.
- Utilizes organizational ski ls effectively in compiling and analyzing data.
- Is actively involved in community public health efforts, as appropriate.
- Serves as the infection control consultant for multiple departments/facilities
- Evaluates products and equipment
- Recommends actions based upon specific situation
- Participates in infection control, quality improvement and other multidisciplinary meetings
- Creates an atmosphere in which timely and high quality information related to environmental health issues are expressed as well as providing opportunities for individuals to convey understanding of concepts and be encouraged to express new ideas
- Effectively uses knowledge of change theory to operationalize change within the organization
- Effectively interfaces with external entities in planning and coordination of bioterror preparedness
- Perform outbreak investigation in collaboration with the IP Committee Chairman and prepare appropriate reports
- Notifies public health agencies regarding reportable diseases
What qualifications you will need:
- (CIC) Certified in Infection Control
- (RN) Registered Nurse
- Masters Degree degree required
- Four years of infection control experience
