Job Description

Position Description

Manages a sub unit within a department. Plans, organizes and develops goals and procedures. Represents the sub unit to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters. Supervises subordinate staff.

Travel Required

Major/Essential Functions

  • Coordinates logistics of multiple interacting components of a large research project including staffing and equipment availability needs.
  • Daily supervision of 6-15 employees including: Student Assistants, Research Aides, Techs, Technical Assistants, and Research Assistants.
  • Actively participates in administrative actions: Formally evaluates personnel performance, initiates disciplinary actions, reviews and submits time reports.
  • Interviews and makes hiring decisions of perspective employees (other than Research Assistants.)
  • Conducts facility and research site inspections to ensure compliance of protocols and promotes quality research and safety.
  • Trains employees in proper and safe use of equipment and vehicles. Monitors field conditions to determine when field activities need to cease because of adverse fire weather or other adverse conditions.
  • Assists with writing popular media publications for dissemination through traditional and social media, as well as landowner mailing lists.
  • Creates technical reports including research reports and management guides.
  • Curates the lab's long-term datasets including monitoring, trapping, vegetation, and geospatial data.

  • A Master of Science (M.S.) in Natural Resources Management or a related field.
  • Experience dealing with animal care and use issues.

  • Highly motivated and results oriented.

Special Instructions to Applicants

Travel: Overnight travel up to 6 days per month. More frequent day travel to the field site which is 1.5 hours from Lubbock is expected for this position.
