Job Description

GC&E Systems Group is seeking an experienced Electronic Security Technician III to support the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electronic security systems. This senior‑level technician works independently with minimal oversight and may lead installation teams on small to medium projects, providing advanced technical direction and on‑site coordination. The Technician III serves as an on‑site technical lead, offering deep expertise across CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, intercoms, electronic locking hardware, wireless locks, cloud‑based security platforms, and copper/fiber cabling.

Under limited supervision, the Technician demonstrates full technical competence, leads small to medium installation teams, and serves as the primary field escalation point for complex issues. This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to interpret engineered drawings, and the capability to coordinate and lead installation teams in collaboration with Project Managers, subcontractors, and customers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Execute installation, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electronic security and access control systems with a high degree of independence and technical proficiency.
  • When serving as the onsite technical lead, coordinate installation crews, assign tasks, mentor junior technicians, and ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Perform and oversee system testing, validation, and functional verification; identify root causes of failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain clear communication and rapport with customers, GC&E personnel, subcontractors, and on‑site stakeholders.
  • Provide regular status updates to the Project Manager, including progress, risks, material needs, and schedule impacts.
  • Review job files, engineered drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to ensure accurate installation and commissioning.
  • Ensure all assigned tasks are completed within budget, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Accurately complete required documentation, including timesheets, service acknowledgements, material transfers, test results, and closeout packages.
  • Support in‑house assembly, testing, and system checkout activities as needed.
  • Mentor and train Technicians I and II on tools, installation methods, system configuration, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Conduct customer demonstrations, system orientations, and functional walkthroughs to ensure end users understand system capabilities and operation.
  • Maintain proficiency across multiple security platforms and demonstrate the ability to quickly learn, configure, and adapt to new or evolving technologies.
  • Represent GC&E professionally during customer interactions, providing clear explanations of system functionality, installation progress, and technical findings.
  • Provide technical input to engineering and sales teams for job layouts, design considerations, and complex cost estimates.
  • Assist in resolving field challenges proactively to prevent customer or project impact.
  • Perform and, when assigned, lead preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs), ensuring systems operate according to specifications, documenting findings, and submitting complete PMI reports with any recommended corrective actions.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by management to support project and organizational objectives.

Candidate Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel as required and work during standard or assigned hours.
  • Strong understanding of access control, CCTV, and intrusion detection systems through formal training and extensive field experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, riser diagrams, and technical drawings.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, test equipment, and digital measurement tools.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to lead teams and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting electronic security systems.
