Job Description

Description:

The Meriden Public School District is seeking applicants for a Behavior Technician to support students, staff, and programming.  

Program Description:

  • Self-contained special education school
  • Small group, structured, specialized instruction
  • Academic and social, emotional, and behavioral support provided
  • Behavior intervention plans with frequent data collection and analysis 
  • Work-based internship opportunities are available to students who meet program criteria

This position requires an endorsement from the DMV to transport students in the school van. Candidates without a van (V) or activity (A) endorsement may be considered if they obtain such credentials within the 90 days after the hire date.

Required Physical Effort

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk at assigned location(s) for extended periods; frequently bend/stoop, kneel, and maintain balance; climb and reach above shoulder level; push/pull, squat, and crouch as needed.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Ability to operate a multi-passenger van safely for extended periods throughout the day to transport students.
  • Additional hours may be required before or after the scheduled workday, depending on district needs.

Qualifications:

The Behavior Technician should have the ability to work with students with behavior challenges.  Previous training in physical management and de-escalation is preferred. Associate's degree or higher degree preferred. 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with students with special needs.
  • Familiarity with the greater Meriden community.
  • Must hold a driver’s license with the V endorsement, or demonstrate willingness and ability to obtain the endorsement in a timely manner.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
  • All immunizations and vaccinations required for employment in a medical facility must be current and documented.

Salary: $23.87/hr

Hours: Regularly 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, but potentially until 4:00 pm, depending on when transportation is needed.
