TITLE: Substitute Paraprofessional Pool
We are hiring substitute paraprofessional staff for the Valley School.
DUTIES:
• The paraprofessional will be expected to work one on one, in small groups, within an entire
classroom, and to cover large group duties. This paraprofessional will serve our Basic Education
and Special Services programs.
• The paraprofessional will work under the supervision of the Life Skills Teacher to meet the needs of
students with special needs that need direct support throughout the majority of the workday.
• Works with the Life Skills teacher and therapist to develop and deliver instructional activities to
include, but are not limited to, daily living skills, self-care and hygiene skills, social/behavioral
skills training, functional academic instruction, motor skills, and communication skills.
• Assists and/or maintains student discipline, and maintenance of positive student behavior.
• Utilizes Right Response training.
• Works with students under the guidance of the Life Skills Teacher in a confidential manner.
• Shares ideas and perspectives and encourages others to do the same.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and
colleagues.
• Demonstrates sensitivity and respect for diversity among all members of the school community.
• Participates in Special Education in-service and professional development activities and
meetings.
• Monitor student progress as indicated on student IEP’s.
• This position requires the ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
• The paraprofessional will be expected to fulfill any other duties as assigned, remaining flexible
within the assignment as directed.
• Additional duties may include the following provide diapering, feeding and other
developmentally appropriate programming, administration of medications under the direction of
the school nurse and ride and secure students on the school bus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: No previous paraprofessional experience required. However,
previous paraprofessional experience working one on one, in small group situations and experience
working with a classroom teacher is strongly preferred. Applicants must meet minimum state standards
of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Minimum requirements include a High School diploma or
GED and successful completion of Praxis test or AA degree or higher. This position will be required to
complete the core competencies to meet the special education requirements. The successful candidate
must have the temperament to be successful with students with special needs and/or skill development
in grades K-8, have a willingness to work with and take direction from certified staff, and have the
temperament to successfully cover large and small group duties and other coverage as assigned with
children in grades K-8.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: This position can be scheduled to work up to 7.5 hours per/day and will
report to the K-8 Principal. This position is open for the current school year. The salary range of pay
rates will be $17.77/hr. to $35.17/hr.
