Occupational Therapist (1.0) through June 2026

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy (Doctorate if required)

Massachusetts State License as Occupational Therapist

Current Certification by The National Board for Certification     

In Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)

Exceptions to the above qualifications shall be made as the 

Superintendent deems appropriate and acceptable.

 

SUPERVISES: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants

 

JOB GOAL/PURPOSE:   Identifies and provides supports and services to address a

multitude of sensory, cognitive, motor, health and well-being needs that impact school function, community integration, continued education and transitions toward employment.

 

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and/or Director of Special Education

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:  

1. Addresses the needs of diverse learners in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act


2. Supports all students in accordance with the Massachusetts Multi-Tiered Systems
   of Supports


3. Evaluates a student’s ability through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews and provides a written report of testing results


4. Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrates findings with other disciplines, provides recommendations using a team approach, and develops Individual Education Programs (IEPs)


5. Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school environment as outlined in the student’s IEP


6. Adapts and modifies the environment including use of assistive technology and training staff to meet individual needs and to help students function as independently as possible


7. Educates student, educational personnel, and family to facilitate skills in areas of occupation as well as health maintenance and safety


8. Collaborates with educational teams to achieve student outcomes.


9. Collects and analyzes data to document services to ensure accountability and to meet standards for reimbursement of services as appropriate including Medicaid billing


10. Monitors and reassess the effects of occupational therapy intervention and the need to continue, modify, or discontinue intervention. Provides written report of progress for all students with each report card. Participates in annual reviews of each students’ IEP


11. Involvement at the community, system, building and student levels for school-wide initiatives such as social emotional learning, Universal Design, health and wellness, assistive technology and program development


12. Assists students in preparing for successful transition into appropriate post–high school employment, independent living, and/or further education


13. Uses professional literature, evidence based research, and continuing education to ensure practice is consistent with best practice and to meet licensure requirements


14. Adheres to the professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision making in practice


15. Performs other responsibilities as deemed appropriate and assigned by a supervisor and/or designee

 

Additional:

1. Safety Care trained preferred

2. Experience with students with behavioral and social emotional needs.

3. Experience with school age students preferred.

 

Salary range:  $64,004 - $108,744
