    PRIMARY PURPOSE:          
    The role of a painter is to help complete the work assigned to the Paint Shop.
     
    EXPERIENCE:
    1. High school diploma or equivalency
    2. Hold a valid Texas Driver’s License and maintain a good driving record
    3. Must have knowledge of, experience with, and/or willing to learn:
      1. Washing and cleaning materials and techniques
      2. Painting, brush, roller, and/or spray application techniques for all types of materials familiar to the painting trade
      3. Drywall surfaces – taping, sanding, finishing
      4. Wall covering – Layout, application techniques and procedures related to decorating with wall coverings and fabrics
      5. Surfaces – Recognition of and proper procedures to decorate and protect all types of surfaces (wood, steel, concrete, brick, plaster, etc.)
      6. Sand and water blasting – Types of equipment, materials, necessary air pressures to clean surfaces.
      7. Rigging – Built-up or suspended scaffolding, (ladders, stringers, stages, hooks, ropes, and rolling, etc.)
      8. Staining – Woods new and old, finishing or refinishing, furniture and/or woodwork
      9. Related shop work – procedures necessary to work on production and special assignments requested by departments for new or refurbished equipment and materials
     

    JOB DESCRIPTION AND/OR DUTIES:     

     
    1. Be honest, dependable and of good moral character
    2. Support board and administrative policies and decisions
    3. Maintain professional work environment through a positive attitude, punctuality, regular attendance, personal appearance and possess good communication and interpersonal skills
    4. Conform to industry and shop standards of safety. Maintain a functional awareness of the typical hazards of the workplace as well as the special hazards that may be encountered by the trade. Promptly report accidents on the job. Prepare and submit accident reports to Supervisor. The journeyman will be responsible for adhering to policies, practices, and procedures on safety and operational instructions. Comply with rules and regulations applicable to building codes.
    5. Report observed facility discrepancies to supervisor
    6. May be required to assist with maintaining files
    7. Duties also include other miscellaneous coatings, finishes, sealants, weatherization products, graffiti removal, etc.
    8. Prepare and submit paperwork for materials required to complete assigned tasks. Plan work to ensure cost effective use of labor and materials
    9. Have enough strength and physical dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.
    10. Inspects completed assignments to ensure that satisfactory work quality, operating procedures, efficiency, progress, methods and practices, safety, and other established standards and requirements are satisfactorily met and maintained
    11. Assist the Supervisor – Guides, trains, and gives technical assistance to other shop employees engaged in daily activities
    12. Assist the Supervisor – inspects completed assignments to ensure that satisfactory work quality, operating procedures, efficiency, progress, methods, and practices, safety, and other established standards and requirements are satisfactorily met and maintained
    13. Initiates the purchase of supplies, tools, and equipment in accordance with established purchasing procedures. Plan, develop and manage efficient, economical preventative maintenance of tools and equipment assigned to the shop.
    14. Prioritize schedules and activities to ensure prolonged life, usefulness, and safety of equipment to minimize breakdowns, failures, and hazards
    15. Willing to acquire job related license(s) that may be required
    16. Continue to learn and develop in the field
      PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Keep Paint Shop Supervisor informed as to job progress or changes that must be made
    2. Check in and out daily with the Paint Shop Supervisor or in the absence of the Supervisor, the next senior management personnel
    3. Maintain and document color codes, formulation, and records of campuses, i.e., colors and schedules
    4. Conform to industry and shop standards of safety. Maintain a functional awareness of the typical hazards of the workplace as well as the special hazards that may be encountered by the trade. Promptly report accidents on the job. Prepare and submit accident reports to Supervisor. Responsible for adhering to policies, practices, and procedures on safety and operational instructions. Comply with rules and regulations applicable to building codes.
    5. Load and unload materials and equipment as necessary
    6. Keep all equipment and tools operating properly, safely and in concordance with applicable codes and related safety regulations and recommendations
    7. Must be able to wear a respirator when spray painting
    8. Responsible for proper and legal handling of all paints, coatings, hazardous waste, etc. storage and disposal
    9. May be required to obtain an asbestos license, lead management or other license as deemed necessary
    10. Be available for emergency response and support, i.e., duties may require overtime, weekends, late night work and holiday work to perform the tasks required by AISD
    11. Coordinate scheduling of work on campus with principals. Check in prior to commencing work – brief principal prior to leaving
    12. Work with other trades and shops in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation
    13. Keep all work areas clean. Thorough clean up should be done at the end of all completed work.
    14. Journeyman are expected to improve and expand knowledge in the field and to assist those assigned to improve and expand
    15. May have to work above 12-50 feet and operate a bucket lift for high work
    16. Conform to District and Facilities department policies
    17. Perform other assigned duties
     
    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    1. Work with frequent interruptions
    2. Frequent standing, walking, and sitting for prolonged periods of time
    3. Assembling and moving ladders, scaffolding, trailers, compressors, etc.
    4. Lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds
    5. May be required to wear a respirator and pass appropriate pulmonary physical
    6. Exposure to noise and communicable diseases
    7. Extreme cold/heat
    8. Exposure to wet and humid conditions
    9. Work in confined spaces
    10. Exposure to legal limits of pesticides and herbicides
    11. Exposure to odors and gases
    12. Tolerate exposure to grasses and other outside environments
     
    Wage/Hour Status:  Non-exempt 
     
    Pay Grade: Auxiliary – 4
