TITLE: High School Counselor
LOCATION: Bennett School District REPORTS TO: Building Principal
DATE AVAILABLE: 2026-2027 School Year
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree
- Must possess a valid Colorado Licensure with appropriate endorsement
- Satisfactory completion of criminal background check
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promotes and enhances the learning process for students through an integration of academic, personal/social, and post-secondary development
- Contributes to and/or manages the School Counseling Program using the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model
- Counsels students regarding educational issues such as course and program selection, class scheduling, school adjustment, truancy, study habits
- Counsels individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their education
- Delivers counseling services through classroom guidance lessons, small groups, and individual counseling
- Analyzes data and uses results to inform stakeholders and continuously improve programs
- Meet with students prior to and during the registration process, inform the students of classes relative to course selection, and assist the administration with the registration and scheduling process.
- Develop the master schedule with the high school principal.
- Make recommendations to students regarding class selection taking into consideration the student's abilities, background, and interests.
- Meet with individual students to make any schedule changes.
- Conduct orientation meetings with all eighth-grade students providing information on class offerings and registration procedures.
- Advise students regarding the accuracy and completeness of records and credits. Perform periodic credit checks grades 9-12 with an emphasis on the senior year. Provide written contact and telephone calls to parents/guardians of students who are deficient in credits and information to any students needing to attend summer programs to make up credits.
- Work with entities and students on Concurrent Enrollment.
- Coordinates FAFSA information meeting.
- Other duties as assigned by the principal.
