     Salary/Hours: 
    • Non-exempt -  Classified Salary Scale https://www.mpark.net/departments/human_resources 
    • Position Length: 220 days
    • Hours: 7.5 hours per day
    JOB SUMMARY:  The school secretary position performs intermediate skilled and responsible administrative work related to the operation of the main office. The position provides administrative support to the school administration and teaching staff. The school secretary reports to the building assistant principals and principal.
    REQUISITE EDUCATION AND SKILLS:
    • High school diploma or general education (GED) certificate, two years of general office experience (preferably school-based), with one year of computerized databases
    • Strong oral and written communication skills, bi-lingual in English and Spanish required
    • Considerable knowledge of general office procedures, secretarial techniques, computer equipment usage and required software (Microsoft Office Suite)
    • Knowledge of school office operations and confidentiality requirements for student information
    • Ability to communicate courteously and tactfully with students, teachers, parents, and the general public
    • Must possess good organizational skills
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks
    • Ability to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision and treat information with confidentiality
    • Ability to work well with others; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, and parents.
    ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (including but not limited to the following)
     
    • Greets visitors to the school and answers the telephone
    • Provides Spanish language translation support, both written and conversational to assist building administrators, specialists, teachers and parents
    • Schedules parent meetings and may facilitate parent meetings as an interpreter of Spanish/English discussions between building administrators or teachers and families as it pertains to attendance and truancy
    • Maintains records/files/reports pertaining to such matters as enrollment, attendance, student information, and prepares reports as required
    • Prepares correspondence and other school related documents, including those related to attendance, truancy, discipline, in English and/or Spanish
    • Receives, sorts, opens and routes incoming mail
    • Attends court for attendance and truancy cases as needed
    • Performs accurate, responsible, and confidential computerized student information processing and reporting following local directives and state guidelines
    • Communicates orally and in writing with school employees, students, parents, and the public with guidance from the principal
    • Provides clerical support and assistance to the building administrators
    • Supervises and trains student office workers
    • Ensures substitutes sign in daily to the division timesheet system
    • Conducts home visits for attendance and truancy cases as needed
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required.
