- Build and maintain a program that attracts and retains sufficient student enrollment to:
- Perform standard concert band literature with characteristic ensemble sound, and
- Sustain standard and balanced instrumentation at the succeeding high school level.
- Collaborate with other district band instructors to ensure continuity in enrollment from middle school to intermediate and from intermediate to high school.
- Identify, diagnose, and prescribe remedial actions for problems in individual and group techniques.
- Design or select and implement planned sequences of instruction for the development of ensemble technique and music reading skills.
- Select and requisition required music, instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Ensure instruments and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored; maintain accurate and current inventory records.
- Participate cooperatively in school and district-wide activities.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with parent groups and the community.
- Recruit and retain a sufficient number of students to sustain a balanced and standard instrumentation for the succeeding band program.
- Plan and coordinate the middle school band program.
- Assist beginning students in selecting appropriate instruments.
- Prepare students for individual, small group, and large group performances throughout the year.
- Oversee a program serving approximately 200�300 students.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Bachelor's degree required. Additional coursework above a bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
Certification:
Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate appropriate for assignment.
Experience:
Experience teaching instrumental music preferred.
Skills:
Working knowledge of band instruments. Ability to conduct music accurately and expressively with confidence. Strong knowledge of concert literature and current instructional techniques. Strong personal musicianship. Ability to collaborate with staff, students, parents, and community members.
SUMMARY:
Instructs middle school band classes to develop students' individual and group performance skills and understanding of music. Plans, coordinates, and maintains a comprehensive middle school band program that promotes musical excellence, student growth, and continuity within the district band program.
