Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Reading Specialist to join our team at Locust Grove Elementary. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in literacy education and a commitment to fostering a love for reading among students. This full-time position involves working collaboratively with teachers, students, and families to enhance reading skills and promote a positive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Assess and evaluate students’ reading abilities and needs using various diagnostic tools and assessments.
- Develop and implement individualized reading intervention plans tailored to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate literacy strategies across all subject areas.
- Provide targeted small group and one-on-one instruction to students struggling with reading.
- Monitor and track student progress, adjusting interventions as necessary to ensure growth.
- Conduct professional development workshops for teachers on effective reading instruction and intervention strategies.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and strategies for supporting reading at home.
- Stay current with research and best practices in reading instruction and literacy development.
- Participate in school meetings, committees, and events to promote a culture of literacy within the school community.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, or a related field;
- Valid teaching certification with a specialization in reading or literacy instruction.
- Proven experience working as a Reading Specialist or in a similar role, preferably in an elementary school setting.
- Strong knowledge of reading assessment tools and intervention strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and families.
- Demonstrated ability to create engaging and effective instructional materials and activities.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Ability to adapt to the diverse needs of students and implement differentiated instruction.
