BASIC FUNCTION:


Assist with the supervision and safety of students while on the bus. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the transportation department.


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  1. Assist in the supervision and support of students to ensure behavioral, health, and safety needs are met; report policy infractions, as appropriate.

  2. Physically assist the driver in loading and unloading students, including students with accommodations such as wheelchairs, safety vests, etc.

  3. Perform visual safety equipment inspection at the start of each route; including harnesses, wheelchair tie down devices, etc.

  4. Report all equipment damage and/or repair items using established procedures and forms.

  5. Assist in assuring interior cleanliness and appearance of the school bus.

  6. Assist in providing the necessary safeguards to prevent loss of or damage to property, or failure of mechanical equipment.

  7. Complete Medicare paperwork.

  8. Utilize a computer for District and Department email communications and online training Courses.

  9. Attend professional development.

  10. Adhere to District policies/procedures and Department work rules.


ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):



  1. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.

  2. Maintain confidentiality.

  3. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.

  4. Assist with other duties as may be assigned.



HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:



Required Education and Experience:



  1. Eighteen (18) years of age or older.


Desired Education and Experience:



  1. Two (2) years of experience working with children.


Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:



  1. Ability to support the behavioral, health, and safety needs of students, including those with additional accommodations.

  2. Ability to take online training courses.

  3. Practical knowledge of equipment needed to perform job functions.

  4. Ability and willingness to accept the responsibility of the position.

  5. Effective communication with others.

  6. Ability to use good judgment; and have a caring and optimistic attitude toward children.

  7. Ability to promote spirit of cooperation with others.
