Job Description: Service Technician



Department: Service



Reports To: Service Manager



FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)







Position Summary



The Agriculture Service Technician is responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, service repairs, and maintenance work on agricultural equipment. This role operates with limited supervision and requires strong technical ability across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. The Technician plays a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, maximizing customer uptime, and supporting overall service department efficiency.







Key Responsibilities



Diagnostics & Repair




  • Diagnose failures and perform repairs on agricultural equipment, including tractors, implements, and small engine equipment

  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems

  • Utilize diagnostic tools, software, and technical manuals to identify issues accurately

  • Perform warranty and non-warranty repairs according to manufacturer and dealership standards



Preventative Maintenance




  • Perform scheduled maintenance services and inspections

  • Identify additional repair needs during inspections and communicate findings clearly

  • Ensure equipment meets safety and operational standards before release



Work Order Management




  • Accurately record diagnostics, labor time, parts used, and repair details

  • Maintain clear and complete documentation in dealership systems

  • Meet or exceed standard repair times and productivity expectations



Team Support & Collaboration




  • Communicate effectively with Service Writers on job status, delays, and additional work needed

  • Assist and mentor Technician I employees in developing technical skills

  • Collaborate with Parts Department to ensure timely parts availability



Safety & Compliance




  • Follow all safety procedures, OSHA guidelines, and company policies

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment

  • Properly use and maintain tools and equipment



Training & Development




  • Participate in manufacturer and in-house training programs

  • Stay current with evolving agricultural equipment technology and systems

  • Work toward certifications and advancement
