Position Roles and Goals
The Accountant supports the financial operations of the REACH Project Inc., a nonprofit medical practice specializing in harm reduction and integrated healthcare services. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audits and grant reporting, managing cost centers, and ensuring compliance with New York State regulations, including NYS CFR requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, systems-savvy, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Maintain general ledger and perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Supervise and manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash reconciliations
- Maintain chart of accounts and cost center structure to support program-level reporting
Grants & Restricted Funding
- Track grant revenue and expenses by funding source and program
- Ensure proper allocation of costs in accordance with grant agreements and NYS CFR in coordination with Grants Coordinator
- Support grant invoicing, drawdowns, and financial reporting
- Assist with budget development and variance analysis for grants and programs
Audits & Compliance
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for annual financial audits
- Serve as a point of contact for auditors and funding agencies as needed
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, and NYS regulatory requirements
- Support policies and procedures related to financial compliance and reporting
Systems & Reporting
- Utilize accounting systems (preferably Sage Intacct) to ensure accurate and efficient financial management
- Develop and maintain financial reports for leadership, program staff, and the Board of Directors
- Use Excel for reconciliations, reporting, and data analysis (pivot tables, formulas, etc.)
Supervision & Collaboration
- Provide supervision to finance staff, as applicable
- Collaborate with operations, clinical, and administrative teams to support financial operations as needed or required
- Support cross-departmental understanding of budgets, cost centers, and financial processes
