About the Role

DP World is seeking an experienced Automation Superintendent to support the safe, reliable and compliant operation of advanced automation technologies within a major port and terminal environment. In this role, you will play a key part in the operation, commissioning, maintenance, and continuous improvement of automated systems, working closely with operations, maintenance, IT, and OEM partners to ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.

 

Additionally, you will provide leadership and technical oversight to maintain the availability and performance of automated equipment and control systems, supporting both maintenance and operational needs.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Drive planned, safe, and cost-effective maintenance, manage backlogs, optimise workflows, and collaborate with teams to minimise downtime

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and support automated equipment, control systems, drives, sensors, industrial networks, and emerging technologies

  • Ensure adherence to electrical and automation standards, WHS and site procedures, conduct safety checks, and lead investigations into system faults or failures

  • Support commissioning, testing, system integration, fault diagnosis, and automation upgrade initiatives

  • Identify inefficiencies, refine control logic, optimise automation workflows, and implement technology enhancements to improve operational performance

  • Maintain SOPs, system documentation, network configurations, and change management records, while delivering technical training to operations and maintenance teams

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

This role suits candidates with electrical or engineering backgrounds and strong expertise in industrial automation, control systems, and emerging technologies.

  • Minimum 8 year’s experience in maintenance, commissioning, or operations of automated equipment, with at least 5 years in industrial automation or control systems

  • Strong expertise in PLCs, drives, sensors, industrial networks, control systems, and emerging technologies such as vision systems and advanced sensing technologies

  • Experience with maintenance management software, budgeting, expenditure control, and implementing maintenance strategies for heavy plant and equipment

  • Sound knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management, compliance standards, and ability to work safely in high-risk operational environments

  • Excellent problem-solving, fault-finding, communication, and change management skills, with experience in ports, terminals, heavy industry, mining, or manufacturing environments
