Job Description

Position Summary:

The Flavor Chemist position is involved in the execution from concept to commercialization of assigned new product development, quality improvement, or cost optimization in savory, beverage and dairy flavors.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates innovative flavors for a range of food and beverage products to meet the specific requirements of our customers
  • Formulation of liquid compounded flavors, spray dried flavors, flavor emulsions, and flavor extracts
  • Matches samples of flavors from competitors, food products and nature with the support of our analytical team
  • Ability to formulate flavors for alcoholic beverage that meet TTB guidelines and restrictions
  • Serve as project leader for creative projects, as project support for application projects
  • Interface with multiple cross-functional groups to execute projects
  • Provide technical support to account managers on specific projects, interact with key customers
  • Provide leadership and instruction to technicians and lower level professional personnel as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related Applied Science required; Masters or PhD a plus
  • Minimum of seven years progressive experience in the development of flavors for foods and beverages
  • In depth knowledge of aroma chemicals, essential oils and other materials used in the creation of flavors
  • Comprehensive knowledge of flavor regulations, flavor manufacturing procedures and US flavor regulations
  • Extraordinary sense of taste and smell, ability to recognize chemicals by odor
  • Interpersonal skills that allow for effective working relationships with peers, cross functional team managers and customers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficient organizational and computer skills (Microsoft Office)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification from the Society of Flavor Chemists

Salary range: $104,672 - $157,008

The actual compensation that you will be offered will depend on a variety of factors including geography, skills and abilities, education, experience and other relevant factors. This role will remain open until filled.
