Camp Director:

Under the direction of the Vice President of Membership and Program Services, the Camp Director is responsible for developing, organizing, and leading high-quality programs and activities at the YMCA's Camp Cormorant. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for overnight and day summer camp, as well as year-round programming, events, and facility use. The Camp Director oversees daily operations, drives program growth, ensures safety and compliance, and leads staff to create a welcoming and impactful experience for all campers and participants.

 

For over 100 years, YMCA Camp Cormorant has offered spirit, tradition, leadership, and exceptional facilities to campers. Founded in 1903, Camp Cormorant is one of the oldest overnight camps in the entire nation. The camp is nestled on 80 acres of wooded property with an extensive beachfront on Big Cormorant Lake. We are located approximately six miles south of Lake Park, MN, in the heart of Minnesota lakes country. No day at camp is just a typical day. Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Mission Advancement

  • Lead camp operations in alignment with YMCA mission and strategic goals
  • Build strong partnerships with community organizations and stakeholders
  • Expand camp programming across multiple communities
  • Promote inclusion and ensure programs serve diverse populations

Program Development & Growth

  • Grow summer camp enrollment and expand year-round offerings
  • Develop programs for schools, teens, families, and corporate groups
  • Evaluate programs for quality, impact, and financial sustainability
  • Collaborate with marketing to promote camp programs

Operations & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with American Camping Association (ACA) standards
  • Enforce all safety, health, and risk management policies
  • Oversee staff training, including safety and program delivery
  • Coordinate with maintenance for facility upkeep and improvements

Financial & Administrative Management

  • Develop and manage department budget
  • Monitor financial performance and billing processes
  • Partner with development team to secure grants and donations
  • Support scholarship funding efforts

Staff Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise staff
  • Foster a positive, engaging, and accountable team culture
  • Conduct performance reviews and ongoing coaching
  • Maintain staff schedules and ensure proper coverage

 

Requirements

Required Education, Certifications, Experience: 

  • At least 25 years of age
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a directly related field, or an equivalent combination of directly related experience, training, and/or education
  • Within 90 days of hire: CPR/FA for Adult, Child and Infant
