Position Summary

The Apprentice – Welder Pipefitter – IN Industrial is an entry-level role supporting the installation, fabrication, and maintenance of piping systems on industrial and commercial construction projects. Working under the supervision of experienced Pipefitters, Welders, and Foremen, the Apprentice assists with layout, cutting, fitting, and welding activities while learning to follow project specifications, codes, and GEMCO safety standards. This role provides hands-on training with piping materials, welding processes, and mechanical systems to support long-term career growth in the skilled trades.

 

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist with layout, fabrication, and installation of piping systems for heating, cooling, gas, steam, and compressed air applications
  • Support welding operations by preparing joints, fitting materials, and performing basic welds under supervision
  • Cut, thread, bend, and prepare pipe using hand tools, power tools, and pipefitting equipment
  • Learn to read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and piping schematics
  • Assist with inspection, testing, and verification of installed systems to ensure leak-free operation and compliance with specifications
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition
  • Transport materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites as required
  • Follow direction from Journeymen, Foremen, and Supervisors to complete tasks accurately and efficiently
  • Participate in ongoing training to develop welding techniques, pipefitting practices, and mechanical system knowledge
  • Follow all company safety policies and participate in required safety training
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support project execution
