Job Description

Position Summary:

The Quality Control Technician III is a senior-level quality professional responsible for advanced inspection, independent decision-making, and leadership within the Quality function. This role owns complex quality issues from identification through resolution, serves as a technical expert on drawings and specifications, and acts as a mentor to junior technicians.

The QC Tech III operates with minimal supervision, exercises strong judgment, and has authority to protect product integrity, including stopping production when necessary.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Advanced Inspection & Evaluation

·        Perform complex dimensional, visual, and functional inspections

·        Evaluate product against engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards

·        Verify compliance to internal quality standards and customer requirements

Drawing & Specification Interpretation

·        Expert-level interpretation of engineering drawings, tolerances, and codes

·        Analyze specifications and determine inspection methodology

·        Identify discrepancies and assess impact on form, fit, and function

Problem Solving & Corrective Action

·        Lead root cause analysis using structured problem-solving methods (5-Why, Fishbone, etc.)

·        Develop and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)

·        Partner with production and engineering to implement sustainable solutions

Audit Leadership

·        Support and lead internal audits

·        Participate in and represent Quality during external audits (ISO, UL, customer audits)

·        Ensure audit findings are addressed and closed in a timely manner

Training & Mentorship

·        Train and mentor QC Technician I and II team members

·        Provide guidance on inspection techniques and documentation standards

·        Support development of training materials and skill matrices

 

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

·        Interface directly with Engineering, Production, and Customers

·        Communicate quality risks and recommended actions clearly and professionally

·        Support new product introductions and process changes

Disposition Authority

·        Approve or recommend disposition of nonconforming material (use-as-is, rework, scrap)

·        Document and track nonconformance trends

·        Support risk-based decision-making

 

Required Qualifications:

Education

·        High school diploma required

·        Technical certification or associate degree preferred

Experience

·        5+ years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment

·        Progressive responsibility in inspection and quality problem solving

Technical Skills

·        Proficient with measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)

·        Experience with ISO, UL, or similar regulatory standards

·        Working knowledge of ERP or quality management systems

 

Work Environment:

·        Manufacturing floor environment

·        Exposure to noise, moving equipment, and production machinery

·        May require standing for extended periods and lifting up to 40 lbs.
