    Vacancy beginning in the 2026-27 school year for a STEM Teacher for Grades 5-8.

    Job Description

    The STEM Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, student-centered instruction in computer science and STEM. They play a key role in helping students build foundational and advanced computer science skills while also supporting the broader integration of STEM practices across disciplines. In addition to direct instruction, the STEM Teacher collaborates with colleagues to design meaningful learning experiences that connect computer science to real-world applications.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in computer science and STEM, emphasizing computational thinking, problem solving, and real-world application
    • Provide students with opportunities to develop skills in areas such as programming, robotics, and digital creation
    • Foster a classroom environment where students take intellectual risks, learn from iteration, and build confidence through both success and failure
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and ensure equitable access to STEM and computer science learning experiences
    • Collaborate with district and building teams to develop and refine a K�12 progression of computer science and STEM learning experiences
    • Partner with classroom teachers to design and implement learning experiences that incorporate computer science and STEM practices
    • Support colleagues through co-planning, co-teaching, and sharing of instructional strategies and resources
    • Support the use of tools and technologies that enhance student learning, including emerging technologies when appropriate
    • Help maintain and organize materials and spaces that support active STEM learning (e.g., makerspaces, labs, equipment)
    • Engage in ongoing professional learning to stay current with developments in computer science education, STEM practices, and instructional technology
    • Contribute to district and school-based professional learning opportunities
    • Participate in school and district initiatives related to innovation, curriculum development, and design thinking

    Responsible to

    The STEM Teacher serves under the Director of Innovation and Technology, who is the primary supervisor and evaluator, with input from the building principal (or designee).

    Qualifications

    Valid Connecticut teaching certificate with middle and/ or secondary education endorsement and/ or K12 certifications
