We are seeking a dependable and skilled Cook to join our dietary team. This role is responsible for preparing nutritious, high-quality meals while maintaining strong food safety, sanitation, and service standards. The ideal candidate is reliable, team-oriented, and takes pride in delivering meals that support resident health and satisfaction.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving meals according to established menus, recipes, and dietary requirements. This position plays a key role in ensuring meals are prepared on time, portioned correctly, and presented in a safe and appealing manner.
This role operates under the direction of the Food Service Director or Assistant Food Service Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and cook meals according to approved menus and recipes
- Ensure meals are completed and served according to scheduled mealtimes
- Follow dietary guidelines, including special and modified diet instructions
- Maintain proper portion control and food presentation standards
- Assist with organizing and directing kitchen staff when needed
- Monitor food quality and ensure consistency in preparation
- Reduce waste through proper food handling and inventory awareness
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment
FOOD SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures
- Properly store, label, and handle all food items and supplies
- Comply with all regulatory and facility guidelines
- Use kitchen equipment safely and according to manufacturer instructions
- Ensure PPE is used when required
TEAM & COMMUNICATION
- Work collaboratively with dietary staff and leadership
- Communicate effectively regarding meal preparation needs and scheduling
- Support a respectful, cooperative kitchen environment
- Assist in maintaining smooth daily kitchen operations
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in training, in-services, and emergency preparedness activities
- Assist with survey readiness and inspections when required
- Report safety concerns, incidents, or equipment issues promptly
- Support resident needs with professionalism and respect
- Comply with all facility policies and procedures
REQUIREMENTS
- Previous cooking or food service experience preferred
- Ability to follow recipes and dietary instructions accurately
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
- Must be able to read and communicate in English
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
