System Operator (Nights)


We are searching for an experienced System Operator (Nights) at our Burley facility. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

Job Summary: 
The System Operator plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the facility by actively monitoring and managing the computer-based Material Flow Control System (MFCS) and addressing issues with the Material Handling Equipment (MHE) both remotely and on-site. This role requires strong situational awareness, swift incident response, and effective troubleshooting to reduce downtime and optimize system performance. The operator is expected to uphold a professional site culture, promote health and safety in alignment with company values, and consistently support Newcold’s core performance metrics—customer satisfaction, productivity, and accuracy—while fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. 

Duties/Responsibilities: 
Oversee and execute pallet flow and automated processes in alignment with operational plans. 
Monitor and manage the Material Flow Control System (MFCS) to ensure efficient, safe, and timely resolution of issues. 
Ensure proper, complete, and safe operation of all automated material flow systems and material handling equipment (MHE). 
Communicate MFCS-related issues clearly and promptly to relevant team members. 
Ensure MHE is operated according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and manufacturer guidelines. 
Proactively monitor the automated control system to maintain uninterrupted pallet movement throughout the facility. 
Troubleshoot disruptions in automated flow by investigating and implementing corrective actions as needed. 
Manually operate conveyors and other MHE when required to maintain workflow continuity. 
Alert Maintenance Technicians to equipment needing repair or service and provide assistance as necessary. 
Ensure all tasks comply with OSHA, FSDA, and company safety policies to promote a safe work environment. 
Adhere to procedures that uphold product quality in line with customer expectations. 
Collaborate with Planners and Maintenance Technicians to minimize operational disruptions and resolve issues efficiently. 
Prepare and complete detailed shift handover reports to support operational continuity. 
Participate in general warehouse duties as needed to support team objectives. 
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times. 
Actively seek and suggest opportunities for continuous improvement in processes and performance. 
Work closely with the warehouse team to support an efficient and smooth workflow. 
Monitor customer’s palletizing MFCS and constant ATU truck tracking 
Consistently maintain constant clear communication with contracted drivers, and the customer’s palletizing team. 
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

Required Qualifications:

Required Skills/Abilities:  
Experience proficiently working with different computer applications. (Intermediate Computer Proficiency.) 
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
Must have working knowledge of interpersonal relationship skills, including de-escalation of stressful events. 
Available to work any/all shifts in the department as coverage for planned time off. 
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. 
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. 

Education and Experience: 
High school diploma or equivalent. 
At least two years’ related experience required. 
Experience with operating Material Flow Control Systems (e.g. automated conveyors,) or Industrial Control Systems preferred 
Strong computer skills 
Valid Driver’s License is Required 

Physical Requirements:  
Must be in good physical condition 
Must be able to lift 50lbs 
Must be able to work effectively in -5 cold freezer environment 
Must be able to climb 120ft ladder using safety harness 
On occasion, will be required to wear a SCBA while working, requiring employees to be clean shaven. 
In compliance with OSHA regulations and manufacturer safety specifications, fall protection equipment rated for a maximum capacity of 310 lbs (including body weight, cold gear, 30 lbs SCBA pack, and tools) must be used for tasks performed at height. Employees must be able to safely utilize this equipment. If an accommodation is required, it will be evaluated in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
