Job Description

Position Summary


The Assistant Middle School Football Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the football program. This position focuses on helping develop student-athletes’ skills, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship, and ensuring a safe, positive, and structured environment for all participants.




Key Responsibilities


Program Support & Organization



  • Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting daily practices

  • Help organize drills, skill development activities, and game preparation

  • Support supervision of athletes during practices, games, and team events

  • Assist with equipment management, setup, and breakdown




Student-Athlete Development



  • Teach and reinforce fundamental football skills and techniques

  • Encourage teamwork, discipline, and positive sportsmanship

    • Build positive relationships with student-athletes

    • Support and reinforce academic expectations, attendance, and eligibility requirements




    Game Day Responsibilities



    • Assist with game preparation and sideline organization

    • Help with substitutions, player rotations, and communication

    • Support implementation of game strategies as directed by the Head Coach




    Safety & Compliance



    • Help ensure all athletes meet participation requirements (physicals, concussion forms, etc.)

    • Promote safe playing techniques and proper use of equipment

    • Monitor athletes for injuries and report concerns to the Head Coach or appropriate personnel

    • Follow all school, district, and state athletic policies




    Communication



    • Maintain professional communication with the Head Coach, players, and school staff

    • Help communicate team expectations and updates to athletes

    • Direct parent communication through the Head Coach when appropriate

      Program Culture



      • Model positive behavior, professionalism, and strong character

      • Support the Head Coach in creating a positive and inclusive team environment

      • Represent the school and athletic program in a respectful and professional manner




      Qualifications



      • Knowledge of football fundamentals and rules

      • Previous coaching or playing experience preferred

      • Ability to work effectively under the direction of the Head Coach

      • Strong communication and teamwork skills

      • Ability to build positive relationships with middle school students

      • Must meet all district and state requirements (background check, certifications, etc.)




      Additional Duties



      • Attend team meetings, practices, and games as scheduled

      • Assist with athletic program events as needed

      • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director
