Job Description


Radford University seeks an academic leader to support the academic excellence of the Artis College of Science and Technology for the 2026-2027 academic year. Reporting directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Interim Dean will provide leadership and strategic direction for the Artis College, foster ongoing development of high-quality academic programs, support strategies to increase student success, and build relationships and collaborative partnerships internally and externally. Working collaboratively with other deans and the Provost, the Dean will advance academic excellence by encouraging, recognizing, and supporting the faculty in innovative teaching, scholarship, and service.

Major Responsibilities of Position

Lead the faculty and staff of the college in developing and delivering undergraduate and graduate educational programs of the highest quality, consistent with the college’s mission.

Support the curriculum lifecycle that adapts academic programs to meet changing needs of our students, the university, and society;

Encourage the success of our diverse students, including creating an education environment that supports belonging, retention, graduation, and career development.

Promote the overall excellence and welfare of Radford University.

Serve as a member of the Academic Affairs Leadership Team (AALT), the Deans Council, and in partnership with the Provost to successfully meet the university’s mission and strategic goals.

Collaborate with other colleges and offices to support academic programs across the university, including nursing, general education, and interdisciplinary curricula and scholarship.

Obtain and manage fiscal, human, and physical resources necessary to meet the college’s vision, and curricular and programmatic goals.

Represent the college to external and internal constituencies.

Serve on internal and external committees as member, chair, convener, or resource person as assigned by the Provost; and participate in regional and national professional organizations as appropriate.

Maintain and expand positive working relationships with alumni, community members, donors, and other stakeholders.






Required Qualifications


Demonstrated commitment providing a high-quality education to diverse students, including enhancing student recruitment, engagement, persistence, and graduation;

Demonstrated experience in areas of curriculum and program development, student support, faculty recruitment and development, and/or fiscal management;

Demonstrated success in developing and supporting student experiential education, including undergraduate research and internships;

Ability to work collaboratively with members of Academic Affairs Leadership Team (AALT) to support strategic initiatives and interdisciplinary programs;

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with students, faculty, staff, and administration;

Ability to take initiative and work independently and in teams to meet the objectives of academic initiatives.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching, professional contributions, and service as a tenured associate or full professor at Radford University.

Education and experience:

An earned doctoral degree, with preference for the terminal degree to be in a discipline housed in the College.

At least three years of experience and progressive responsibility as an academic administrator.






Preferred Qualifications:


Success in generation of external funding (fund raising, grant writing) and in the development and maintenance of positive working relationships with donors, alumni, community members, and other stakeholders.
