    Health Office Paraprofessional Substitute

     

    General Definition of Work

     

    Provides delegated health services and support under the direction of a Licensed School Nurse (LSN). 

     

    Qualification Requirements

    Essential Functions

     

    Performs routine and emergency first aid care to students.  

     

    Administers and documents student medication administration.

     

    Maintains health office records, including daily visit logs.

     

    Performs other duties of a similar nature as assigned.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

     

    Evidence of the ability to organize and prioritize tasks.  Ability to follow technical oral and written instructions.  Maintains confidentiality of information.  Evidence of basic computer and clerical skills. Ability to administer medications and apply treatments as required and delegated by the Licensed School Nurse.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, students and the general public.  Willingness to participate in ongoing training in health and technology. 

     

    Education and Experience

     

    High school diploma or equivalent.  Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.  Associates/Technical degree preferred.



     

    Physical Requirements

     

    This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands, fingers to handle or feel; frequently requires standing, sitting, reaching with hands and arms, repetitive motions and occasional walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires color perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging information by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal levels; visual inspection involving the use of standard health office equipment; work frequently requires exposure to blood borne pathogen requiring the use of personal protective equipment; work is generally in a modernly noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

     

    Special Requirements

     

    CPR/ first aid certification, obtained upon hire.

     

    Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Trained Medication Assistant (TMA) preferred.

     

    Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse preferred.

     

    Valid driver’s license in the State of Minnesota.

     

    Applicable district or department training will be provided and must be completed upon hire.
