Job Overview:

The BBVA US Legal Department provides legal support to the Corporate & Investment Banking Group (“CIB”), which includes the New York branch and Houston representative office of BBVA (a Spanish bank), and its SEC-registered broker dealer. We are seeking an enthusiastic and intellectually curious individual to join our 13-person in-house legal team as a paralegal. In this role, you will work collaboratively with attorneys and staff to support the legal needs of a dynamic financial institution.

The successful candidate will perform legal research, review documentation for financial transactions, present updates to senior management and manage corporate governance, primarily in support of CIB under the supervision of the Deputy General Counsel for CIB in the US.

Primary Duties:

  • Document Management: Assist in drafting, reviewing, and organizing contracts, confidentiality agreements, corporate documents, and other legal materials.
  • Compliance Support: Collaborate with attorneys to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and corporate policies, including the drafting, filing and monitoring of UCC filings.
  • AI Tools: Assist the team in testing various AI functionalities, building AI capabilities and deploying AI products, all through a Legal lens.
  • Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct research on legal issues, regulations, and financial industry trends.
  • Special Projects: Engage in research and analysis for special projects, demonstrating an eagerness to learn and grow.
  • Administrative Tasks: Support team operations, such as organizing meetings, maintaining legal databases, preparing reports and taking minutes at meetings of senior management.

Qualifications:

-Education: Bachelor’s degree from a top 50 college or university, with strong academic performance.

-Skills:

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments efficiently.

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $70,000 to $90,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
