About the Department

The Chatham County Probate Court is seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Attorney to perform complex legal research and provide critical support to the Judge and Associate Judge. In this pivotal role, you will oversee procedural efficiency, manage conservatorship reviews, and serve as a Judge Pro Temp in accountability and mental health cases. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced attorney to shape mental health services and ensure the highest standards for our community.

Position Duties

Under the direction of the Judge and Associate Judge in Probate Court, you 

  • Perform complex professional legal work. 
  • Attend court and perform legal research and assistance to the Judge and Associate Judge. 
  • Review financial reports filed by conservators of adult and minor wards. 
  • Provide effective professional liaison duties between the Judges, court personnel, other attorneys, and the public. 
  • Stay current on case law and legislation, prepare written materials on new case law, and maintain databases on such. 
  • Review pending cases to ensure procedural efficiency. 
  • May supervise administrative support personnel. 
  • Serve as Judge Pro Temp in accountability and mental health cases
  • Assist in developing and improving upon mental health services including an assisted outpatient treatment program. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school, and 
  • At least seven (7) years of experience as a Staff Attorney or Legal Assistant, which includes four (4) years of court experience, or 
  • At least eight (8) years of active post-bar legal experience; or 
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience. 
  • Must hold a license to practice law in the State of Georgia. 
  • Must be a member in Good Standing of the State Bar of Georgia.
