Description
This driver operates one or more types of commercial motorized vehicle dump trucks for the purpose of hauling and dumping sand, gravel, asphalt, and other construction materials in a regional area.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Transport construction and paving equipment to and from regionally located job sites in a safe timely manner.
- Responsible for the safe loading and unloading of construction and paving equipment.
- Must ensure proper order and weight distribution to ensure safety and minimal risk to cargo, equipment, and people.
- Knowledge of and ability to operate construction and paving equipment.
- Preform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and immediately report concerns or problems.
- Ability to survey job sites and unload cargo per policy, procedures and in conjunction with the site foreman’s directives.
- Maintain complete and accurate records such as daily log, fuel tickets, delivery documentation, and other logs and documents within compliance with government regulations and Superior policies.
- Inspect truck supplies such as tires, brakes, fuel, oil, and water.
- Obtain shipping documents and necessary signature to be returned to appropriate department as required.
- Apply knowledge of commercial driving skills and driving maneuvers at varying speeds and difficult situations such as heavy traffic, inclement weather, and tight loading areas.
- Promptly report any delays, traffic, weather or emergency conditions, irregularities in pick-up or delivery of cargo safety hazards on route, or accidents involving driver or company equipment.
- Operate trucks and equipment according to all laws, VDOT regulations, and observe all safety regulations established by Superior and the Department of Motor Vehicles for the safe operation of a commercial vehicle.
- Maintain a valid CDL A with the required endorsements and medical card
- Schedule and attend required DOT physicals to maintain driving privileges.
- Maintain assigned vehicles and equipment to a high standard of cleanliness.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3-years’ experience operating a lowboy preferred
- Valid Class A CDL license required.
- Endorsements for assigned equipment are preferred.
- Pass the pre-hire road test requirements.
- A satisfactory driving record required.
- Escort certification is preferred.
- Ability to interpret and comply with permit requirements.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Ability to read, follow and interpret safety documents, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals, plans and grade.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- A good understanding of state, local and private requirements and regulations.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and nights as required.
- Must be 18 years of age.

Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, twisting, grasping, and seeing and hearing within normal ranges.
Must lift and/or move up to 75 pounds unassisted through out the shift. Must be able to pull up your own weight and sit in one position up to 12 hours per day.
