HOURS: 6.0 hours per day
Job Description:
Assist students assigned to in-school suspension by providing supervision, guidance, and support to help
them complete assignments and engage in positive behavior.
Qualifications:
● Must meet the minimum requirements for Instructional Paraprofessionals in Title I Schools.
● Ability to implement Restorative Practices.
● Previous experience working with students in a school or educational setting is preferred.
● Familiarity with techniques and strategies for managing student behavior and conflict resolution.
● Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
● Good organizational skills to manage student assignments, documentation, and maintain a structured environment.
● Ability to work collaboratively with other school staff members to support student success and maintain a consistent approach to discipline.
Job Duties:
● Supervise students who have been placed in in-school suspension. This involves monitoring student behavior, ensuring they follow the rules and guidelines set for the ISS program, and maintaining a safe and structured environment.
● Offer academic and emotional support to students, encouraging them to reflect on their actions and make positive choices.
● Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to exchange information about student progress, behavior, and any concerns that arise.
● Help students complete academic assignments or make-up work provided by their teachers during the in-school suspension period.
● Keep accurate records of student attendance, behavior incidents, and any other relevant documentation.
● Encourage a positive and supportive atmosphere within the in-school suspension area, emphasizing personal growth and accountability.
● Help students resolve conflicts and address behavioral issues. May engage in conversations with students, mediate disputes, and provide guidance on problem-solving and effective communication techniques.
● Ensure the safety and security of students in the ISS environment. This includes monitoring student interactions, addressing any safety concerns, and following the school's emergency procedures.
● Performs other duties as assigned.
