Job Title: Lunch/Recess Monitor


Location: Assigned School


Job Group: Non-Certified, Non-Union Support Staff


Pay Grade: Non-Union, Grade 12


Reports To: Principal


 


Summary:  Provides assistance to students during lunch and recess breaks.  Supervises activities and behaviors to ensure a positive, safe environment for students to eat and enjoy recess time.


 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  



  1. Supervises students at lunchtime and recess breaks.  Circulates among students and assists them, helping to preserve order and safeguard school property.

  2. Monitors the behavior of students and takes appropriate action to quell disruption and/or inappropriate behavior in accordance with school policies. Enables students to maintain a harmonious atmosphere by encouraging peaceful resolution of conflicts.

  3. Assumes responsibility for play equipment and organizes group games and activities.

  4. Directs movement of groups to and from the playground, lunchroom, and classrooms in a safe and organized manner.

  5. Assists students in lunchroom cleanup.

  6. Recommends measures for improving cafeteria services to the Nutritional Services Director and/or Principal.

  7. Communicates with school personnel to ensure the safety of students during lunch and recess through collaborative supervision.


Education and/or Experience: High school graduate or equivalent.  Some knowledge of First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training is helpful.   


 


Preferred Skills: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.  Knowledge of child development, appropriate and effective behavior change techniques, as well as direct experience in working with children is essential.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and School Board policies.
