About the Department
A Seasonal JR Camp Counselor, confers with the Facility Coordinator, Site Supervisor and other Counselors and administers daily activity lesson plans following the camp schedule guidelines. Incumbent will teach and supervise children in Camp activities, and will assist the Site Supervisor with all aspects of the Camp program.
This is a Safety Sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
Position Duties
Education / higher education: Must be currently enrolled in High School or must be a High School Graduate (or equivalent)
Other requirements: Must be at least 17 years of age.
Minimum number of years of directly related experience: none
Education and/or experience preferences: Employment, school, church or civic activities where leadership skills of peers or others have been learned and practiced.
Driver’s License requirement: None Required Endorsements: none
Required certifications, licenses or registrations: must have current First Aid and CPR certification
Time given after hire/promotion to obtain certification or licenses: if not in possession of the above certifications, must obtain when the Department offers classes
Preferred certifications, licenses or registrations: none
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge: Familiarity with social, recreational and sport activities that are typically enjoyed by youth
Skills: Customer service; social etiquette; diplomacy; flexibility and willingness to follow direction
Abilities: set and maintain boundaries with children; follow through on a plan of activities; maintain composure and focus amidst chaos.
Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities: Will interact with other City staff, taking direction and providing information; will interact with facility patrons, providing direction, guidance, instruction and enforcing rules and regulations.

- Administer daily activity lesson plans following the camp schedule guidelines and confer with the Site Supervisor and other Counselors during the planning stages.
- Teaches and supervises all children in Camp activities, and as otherwise assigned.
- Assists Site Supervisor with all aspects of the Camp program, which may include, but not be limited to the following: care and upkeep of facility, equipment and supplies; participates in activity planning; supervises planned activities as needed; coordinates and distributes lunch and snack times; and assists in maintaining Camp records.
- Acknowledges parents as they drop-off and pick-up their children.
