Job Description

Position Overview - Girls Who Code Lead Instructor


The Girls Who Code (GWC) Lead Instructor works in partnership with Grinnell College staff and the Grinnell Middle School to facilitate an after-school club that introduces girls and gender minorities to computer science. Girls Who Code is a national initiative aimed at closing access gaps in technology fields by creating supportive spaces where young people build confidence, develop skills, and cultivate a sense of belonging in STEM. This role centers on cultivating an inclusive learning environment while coordinating volunteers, managing logistics, and ensuring consistent program delivery. 

The position will be for 3-7 hours per week

Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Coordinate and facilitate weekly Girls Who Code club sessions at the middle school 
  • Recruit, train, and support student volunteers serving as facilitators 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between volunteers, middle school staff, and campus partners 
  • Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate coding activities 
  • Organize program logistics including scheduling, materials, and communication 
  • Support outreach efforts (tabling, promotion, partnerships with campus groups) 
  • Maintain alignment with national Girls Who Code program guidelines and mission 
  • Assist with leadership transition and documentation for future student leaders
