Job Description

Dog BatherWe are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Dog Bather to join our team in Franklin Square, NY. This entry-level position offers the opportunity to work hands-on with dogs of various breeds, sizes, and temperaments while providing essential grooming services. The ideal candidate will demonstrate patience, attention to detail, a team player attitude working closely with the receptionist/ groomer and a genuine love for animals while ensuring each dog receives safe, comfortable, and thorough bathing care.

Tasks

Key Responsibilities

  • Bathe dogs of various breeds, sizes, and temperaments using appropriate techniques and products
  • Assess each dog's individual needs, behavior patterns, and stress levels before and during bathing
  • Handle dogs with different personalities safely and compassionately, adapting approach based on each animal's comfort level
  • Apply breed-specific bathing techniques and select appropriate shampoos and conditioners for different coat types
  • Monitor dogs for signs of skin conditions, injuries, or health concerns and report findings to supervisors
  • Maintain clean and sanitized bathing areas, equipment, and tools throughout the workday
  • Restrain dogs safely and humanely during bathing procedures while minimizing stress
  • Light Laundry, vaccuming, and cleaning of tub, bathing room, walls, and floors

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Dog Bathing Certification Required
  • Genuine love and comfort working with dogs of all sizes and temperaments
  • Physical ability to lift, restrain, and handle dogs weighing up to 100+ pounds
  • Strong observational skills to recognize signs of distress, aggression, or health issues in dogs
  • Excellent patience and calm demeanor when working with anxious or difficult dogs
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and proper animal handling techniques
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Willingness to work in wet conditions and stand for extended periods
  • Capable of working in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with dogs in professional setting (grooming, veterinary, boarding, etc.)
  • Knowledge of different dog breeds and their specific grooming requirements
  • Experience handling dogs with behavioral challenges or special needs
  • Basic understanding of dog behavior and body language
  • Certification in animal handling or pet grooming fundamentals
  • First aid knowledge for animals

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with professional dog bathing equipment and tools
  • Knowledge of various dog shampoos, conditioners, and grooming products
  • Understanding of proper water temperature and pressure settings for different breeds
  • Ability to use restraint equipment safely and effectively
  • Basic knowledge of canine anatomy and coat types
  • Familiarity with cleaning and sanitization procedures for grooming equipment
