Bilingual Substitute Teacher


 


 


Reports To:   Assistant Principal & Director of Admission

Compensation: Full day $150; 4 hours $90

 

 


GENERAL SUMMARY:       


 


 


 For the UCLA Lab School, a Substitute Teacher’s responsibility is to maintain the continuity and strength in our Learning in Two Languages (LTL) instructional program.  The primary goal of this position is to support and carry out the expected lessons left by the classroom teacher.

 

 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:


 




  • Use of effective and appropriate methods of working with children.

  • Ability to set up and organize classroom materials for children within a set schedule. 

  • Handles assigned duties from teachers and carries out their requests with their students.

  • Comprehend the purpose of teacher designed strategies as a fulfillment of the instructional objective.

  • Intervene as needed with socially challenged children to recognize, deduce, and apply most beneficial methodology for successful social interactions.  

  • Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, assesses student work product and records results.

  • Keeps attendance records and maintains student files for assigned teacher as needed.

  • May meet with students and parents to discuss a problem along with an administrator and/or teaching team member.

  • May participate in various teacher training workshops as assigned.

  • Assists other teachers while on assignment.

  • Keeps the assigned teacher aware of any student problem and or issues.

  • Communicates with administration when there is a serious student problem and or issue.

  • Performs other administrative functions and duties as assigned.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:





  • Demonstrated experience working with children in a pre-K-6 educational environment. 




  • Ability to work and speak to people of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds to 


    welcome and establish good working relationships with staff, parents and children.


  • Ability to apply teaching theory and approaches to relevant classroom teaching. Skill to make learning aids 


    which will strengthen lesson plans.


  • Ability to supervise teaching assistants and students interns and instruct them in how to best 


    support children in learning activities.


  • Working knowledge of the core subjects at the grade level to which employment assignment is made in a 


    pre-K to 6 grade environment.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work as a team player with colleagues and administrators.


  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, exercising reasonable judgement, in a multi-task 


    environment with minimal supervision.

  • Proficient computer knowledge and previous experience with Mac OS software.


  • Demonstrated experience working with children who have 


    special educational and behavioral needs is preferred but not required.


Salary Info

120 Half Day, $215 Full Day, $280 Full Day long term.
