Donation Room Aide Volunteer - Children, Family and Community Service

 

Are you able to lift bags and boxes that weigh up to 20 pounds?

Do you like to work independently and in a team environment?

Would you enjoy organizing, labelling and making up welcome bags?

 

If you said yes to these questions, then we have the perfect volunteer opportunity for YOU!

 

The Donation Room Aide Volunteer helps to support staff to maintain an organized Donation room, this will ensure there is adequate items to provide for clients being supported by Lurana Shelter. Activities may also include inventory and the unboxing of donation items. The ideal volunteer will have an organized and compassionate approach to the work, strong teamwork skills, and a commitment to developing positive supporting relationships. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Accept and inspect incoming donations from community members with a friendly and welcoming demeanor
  • Regularly report on items needed and/or items of excess
  • Sort donations (clothing, household goods, hygiene products, etc.) according to established guidelines.
  • Organize items neatly in the donation room, ensuring inventory is accessible and well-maintained
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized donation room environment
  • Assist clients in selecting items if needed (specific to your program design)
  • Report any concerns, safety issues, or supply needs to the Team Leader or Program Supervisor promptly
  • Comply with all organization policies, including confidentiality agreements and the code of conduct
  • Represent the Agency in a professional and ethical manner at all times while volunteering

Desired Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong customer service and communication skills are a plus
  • A commitment to the mission and values of the Agency
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Assist with doing inventory of donations and updating records if required
  • Willing to travel between our Shelter locations
